Old on the outside

My mate Grahame, recently came to visit from Essex, England. We’ve known each other since the late 60s at Sydney University. He was about to drop out of electrical engineering to become a pop star and I was about to drop out of Medicine and get a job.

Fast forward fifty odd years and he had become a musician with a couple of novelty hits (“star trekkin” and “Arthur Dailey, he’s alright”), produced a couple of albums and became a tennis coach. I’ve become a retired voiceover guy, and turning 40 in 1989 I wrote a song called “middle aged”.

So while visiting, Grahame suggested I make a new song about “old age”. So I wrote this. Meanwhile, he’s been writing a novel about the advertising industry called “ADLIB” … its brilliant and available on Amazon … and the “oldies” song is on the back burner.
