THE CAFE VILLAGE BY THE SEA
In the café village by the sea,
As do the bouncy, smiling sirens
Alas, their song no longer confounds
On the sand and in the grassy park,
In the café village by the sea
Bacon’n’egging their way through the day
Shadows fall in the café village by the sea
Clusters of flushing errant hormones
Hungry homeless pull rank on seagulls
Sometimes at night in the park
Smashing and fighting against confusion
When daylight saving’s gone,
Suddenly it’s six o’clock
Happy holiday funsters have flown
The village now a nocturnal habitat
Loyal local workers slumping
Then of course, there’s Larry
Lounge Lizard Larry from LA
If half of what he says
During crisp but sunny wintry daze
“Quite warm today, really!”
But the best thing about not-summer
Slow uncrowded coffees
